Development Concept of the Satellite City of Vladivostok Recommended for Implementation

February.2022
At the end of January 2022, on the invitation of the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic of the Russian Federation, OPEN URBAN in a consortium with Gensler and SPI Planning Group submitted a competitive bid on the concept of the Satellite city of Vladivostok. The project idea is to form a cultural center of the Russian statehood in the Far East. The project is based on the creation of a parallel between a new Satellite city and the cultural capital – Saint Petersburg.

The key projects include an international passenger cruise terminal, a government quarter, a naval education center, an ensemble of buildings of the Orthodox cultural center, a group of exposition buildings, and sports infrastructure facilities. The advantageous location of the designed town territory also made it possible to arrange a multimodal transport hub that connects the designed cruise terminal and the housing development with the international airport, regional cities and the historic center of Vladivostok – a solution fostering the accelerated development.

The project was presented to the Minister for the Development of the Russian Far East and the Arctic along with the projects of the State Unitary Enterprise “Research and Project Institute of General Planning for the city of Moscow” and the Agency for strategic development “Center”, Novaya Zemlya and Master’s Plan companies. Open Urban’s project proposals have been highly appraised and recommended for implementation.
